This is day one of a journey. Well in truth it’s day one of a different chapter in a journey. My journey to a fitter, healthier me.
To give you some idea of my starting point I am currently 53 years old & a bit of a crock. My stats at the gym show the bio strength age I have is 73 & my metabolism is 66 years.
I used to only go to the gym to swim, but a couple of years ago there was a major leak in the pool. I had to actually go in the gym area if I was going to make use of my membership & so I did. I realised I was scared stiff and didn’t know what to do apart from with the exercise bike and 1kg dumb bells.
So I tried a session with a personal trainer. Shout out here to Andrea who was brilliant. I worked with her once a week until a couple of weeks ago when she had to move away from the area. During the time I was diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis and my mobility wasn’t great. The gym & PT sessions really helped me get more mobile again.
I’ve also been learning from books and podcasts & made some changes. However, I want to start sharing my next chapter with others now. Why? Three reasons: 1) accountability; 2) I’m entering 2026 aware that it’s a period of change for me and 3) I want to encourage others in their journeys.
What change? I hear you ask. Well I don’t as this is my first post and I don’t even know if anybody will read it. Anyway I digress. My husband is a Methodist minister & this coming summer, subject to t’s and c’s of the denomination we’ll be moving home to a different town.
As we prepare to enter 2026 and I know it’s a year of change I want to make myself prepared mentally, physically and spiritually for that move. I also want to encourage you to share the journey with me and perhaps try some of the stuff too.
Each time I post I want to share one thing I’m trying to do.
An ongoing goal of mine is to get more hydrated. I don’t like just water and so am trying to drink more squash. This Stanley cup has been part of the effort to do that. How? Well if I’ve paid out for it I want to be using it and it holds a litre so if I get through that, with a few cups of tea I’m getting there.
Do I actually drink all of it in a day? Not as often as I should. So the first challenge for me is to try and drink a Stanley cup of squash each day.
